Ingredients

  • 1 pack King's Hawaiian Rolls fresh and soft
  • 3 large eggs binds everything together
  • ¾ cup half and half or whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract enhances sweetness
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon brings warmth
  • 2 tablespoon brown sugar adds caramel sweetness
  • 1 pinch salt balancing flavor
  • 4 tablespoon butter for cooking
  • powdered sugar for serving
  • fresh fruit for serving
  • maple syrup for serving

Method

  1. In a large bowl, vigorously whisk eggs and half and half until smooth and uniform.
  2. Add vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, brown sugar, and a pinch of salt to the bowl and combine well.
  3. Use a toothpick to gently pierce the bottoms of each Hawaiian roll several times to help soak up the custard.
  4. Carefully dip each roll into the custard mixture, turning gently, and let soak for about 30 seconds.
  5. Heat 2 tablespoons of butter in a nonstick skillet over medium-low heat until melted.
  6. Place the soaked rolls on the skillet and cook each side for 30 to 60 seconds, or until they develop a nice golden brown crust.
  7. Serve the warm rolls dusted with powdered sugar and topped with fresh fruit and a drizzle of maple syrup.

Notes

  • Keep an eye on the heat to get a beautiful golden color without burns. Avoid soaking the rolls longer than 30 seconds to maintain texture.
